NGC 104 (Caldwell 106)

NGC 104 (also known as Caldwell 106; 47 Tucanae) is a globular cluster in the constellation Tucana. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 4.1 and its angular diameter is 50 arc-minutes. NGC 104 lies at an estimated distance of 13,000 light-years (+/- 1,000 light-years) and is 120 light years in diameter.

In the telescope, NGC 104 contains about ten thousand stars, many appearing within a small dense central core. The cluster may contain an intermediate-mass black hole.

The Equinox 2000 coordinates are 00h 24.1m, -72° 05´ which makes NGC 104 a Southern Hemisphere object that is best seen during the autumn.
