NGC 2626

NGC 2626 is a diffuse reflection nebula in the constellation Vela. It receives most of its light from a hot embedded B1 V star, CD -40°4432. NGC 2626 is contained within the large H II region RCW 27. A major contributor to the ionization of RCW 27 is the O star HD 73882, 40 arc-minutes west of NGC 2626. It is joined to a dark dust cloud cataloged as DC 259.94.

The distance of NGC 2626 is estimated to be 1000 parsecs ±100 parsecs (3200 light years ±10%). For more information, see Young Stars Associated with the Reflection Nebula NGC 2626 (Mueller and Graham, 2000).
